Teys Australia is committed to ensuring that all cattle are treated humanely. The Australian Feedlot Industry has produced the ‘Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare’ videos that support our values towards the treatment of animals.
Freedom from hunger and thirst. Providing a diet that meets all the cattle’s nutritional needs.
Freedom from discomfort. Providing an appropriate environment for cattle, including shelter and a comfortable resting place.
Freedom from pain, injury or disease. Prevention of pain, injury or disease through the rapid and appropriate diagnosis and treatment of animals that have a condition.
Freedom to express normal behaviour. Providing cattle with sufficient space to lie down, the opportunity to interact with other cattle, as well as adequate roughage in the diet to spend time ruminating.
Freedom from fear and distress. Providing animals with conditions and treatment that avoids mental suffering.
