Teys Australia and the Environment
As a producer of red meat for a global community, we discharge our environmental responsibilities with utmost care and diligence. Our role brings with it a significant commitment to the broader community to improve, invest in, and report on the environmental performance of our operations.
We set clear, measurable targets to reduce our environmental impacts, including our consumption of energy, water and the amount of waste we send to landfill. Teys Australia recently developed a 5-year resource efficiency, carbon intensity and renewables investment target – a first in the Australian red meat industry.
We are committed to ensuring that we meet a high standard of environmental performance that adheres to all relevant legislative and customer requirements, and that we continuously improve our environmental processes and performance. We are constantly exploring and investing in diverse and innovative environmental projects and partnerships to further achieve these goals.
This year, Teys have planned plant and process improvements which will generate:
Waste Water Treatment Project Upgrade
Teys Australia now operates four state of the art industry leading waste water treatment systems in QLD (Beenleigh and Rockhampton and NSW (Wagga Wagga and Tamworth).
The systems include both a Covered Anaerobic Lagoon (CAL) designed to capture methane rich biogas to generate renewable energy for each site and replace natural gas and coal in site boilers and a Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) system designed to treat each plants processed waste water to a higher quality, opening up the potential for a greater number of reuse and discharge opportunities.
These upgrades have delivered a multitude of improvements across both environmental, social and economic aspects that are contributing to advancing sustainability in QLD and NSW, and in the manufacturing sector in Australia.
