The Australian national meat judging team has finished third overall at the recent National Western Stock Show competition in Colorado. The Australian team, which is made up of five Australian students, also earned champion team and individual first and third places in lamb judging; third and eight in overall standings; fifth in individual beef grading; third and fourth in individual questions and fifth in individual pork judging. This is the fourth year in a row that Australians have been the champion team for lamb judging.
Now that the training and competition component of their tour is over, the team will focus on visiting a broad cross-section of the US meat industry, including feedstock and cow calf producers, lot feeders, universities, processors and retailers.
We’d like to congratulate the team on their fantastic results, and the hard work they have put into the competitions. Incredible work everyone!
In July, the 30th anniversary of the Australian Intercollegiate Meat Judging Association will be celebrated at the annual ICMJ conference and competition at our Wagga Wagga site. For the first time in 2019, ICMJ will also hold a Northern conference at our Rockhampton site, focusing on the Northern beef sector.
