Happy New Year! We hope you had a fantastic holiday period, and we can’t wait to see what 2019 brings. 2018 was a very busy year for Teys Australia – we expanded, introduced a new brand, furthered our commitment to environmental sustainability, received increased recognition for our efforts in sustainability and embraced various new technologies. Here is a review of the exciting developments 2018 held for Teys Australia:
Murgon Plant Expansion
The official opening of our Murgon Hides Processing Plant expansion took place on the 13th of December. This expansion is set to provide the site with the capacity to increase production by 20%. Once the plant is operating at full capacity, we expect that 12 full-time roles in operations will open up!
Teys Joins the ‘Sustainability Steering Group’ (SSG)
The Red Meat Advisory Council (RMAC) recently announced 5 new members of the ‘Sustainability Steering Group (SSG)’, which is intended to drive implementation of the Australian Beef Sustainability Framework. The EOI (expressions of interest) process was very competitive – over 40 high-calibre applications were received – and we are stoked to have been selected amongst such great company!
Teys is a Finalist in the 2019 SA Climate Leaders Awards
We are stoked to announce that Teys Australia Naracoorte was recognised as a finalist in the 2018 SA Climate Leaders Awards! These awards recognise the achievements of individuals and organisations who take action to address climate change in South Australia.
Teys Announces Sustainability Benchmarks
Last year, we made a commitment to support sustainable beef processing by reducing our carbon intensity by 20% and our water intensity by 10% by 2023. We also support the red meat industry achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
Teys Releases Publicly Accessible Price Grids
As of July 2018, our direct consignment price grids can now be viewed on our website. We now publish grid price offers for our Beenleigh, Biloela and Rockhampton plants in Queensland; our Wagga plant in NSW and our Naracoorte plan in South Australia.
Teys Launched New Brand – 36º South Beef
Our new brand, 36º South, aims to pair our highest eating quality beef with some of the Coonawarra region’s top wines. We officially launched this brand at the renowned Adelaide restaurant ‘Sean’s Kitchen,’ where our fantastic beef was paired with fantastic wine from our cattle producers for this brand.
Teys Injects Over $30 Million into Naracoorte Infrastructure
We recently committed to investing over $30 million into new infrastructure at our Naracoorte plant. This move will create around 100 new jobs, which will be a huge boost to the region’s economy.
DEXA Trial Takes Place at Teys Rockhampton Site
In the red meat industry, DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) technology provides timely, accurate, transparent and objective information on the lean meat, bone and fat composition of meat carcases. Last year, a trial of DEXA scanning took place at our Rockhampton site in Central Queensland.
We could go on, but we think you get the picture – 2018 was a pretty busy and exciting year for us! We can’t wait to continue our commitment to sustainability and innovation, and to see what 2019 has in store!
